Overview of ICF

The Indore Cancer Foundation (ICF) was launched on December 27, 1988, in the presence of Dr. Jatin P. Shah, the then Professor, and Chief of Head and Neck Service, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York; Late Mr. Sunil Dutt, former M.P. from Mumbai; Mr. Surendra Wadhwani, Hong Kong; and prominent citizens of Indore.

A not-for-profit, charitable organisation working in the field of cancer, the Indore Cancer Foundation was the dream of Dr. Digpal Dharkar who continues to be its driving force till today. Registered under the Madhya Pradesh Public Trust Act, 1951, the Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust was settled on November 14th, 1989, by Smt. Usha Devi Holkar, ex-ruler of Indore, and her husband Mr. Satish Chandra Malhotra, Chairman, Empire Industries, Mumbai.

The highest decision-making body of the Foundation is the Board of Permanent Trustees, which is the legal owner of its movable and immovable assets.

On the Board are eminent personalities of international repute.

Some of the significant objects of the Indore Cancer Foundation, collectively referred to as “Project Cancer”, are:

public education;
medical education;
programs in line with the National Cancer Control Programme;
setting up a state-of-the-art institute, probably the first of its kind in the world, focusing on the commonest cancers in adult Indian men, the head & neck cancers, work on preventive strategies, diagnostic programs, and clinical &basic research;
offer palliative care to those beyond cure.

Our Mission

To develop a national center of eminence for head and neck cancers.
To deliver and transform cancer care by providing affordable, compassionate and cutting-edge cancer treatment.
Rolling out prevention and early detection strategies through education and dedicated research for a healthier tomorrow especially to touch the lives of those in the remote and tribal areas.
Capacity enhancement of the medical cadre particularly the government health delivery system that reaches the remotest corner of the country, in the preventive and early detection aspect of the cancer.

Objectives:

Public education on cancer awareness – prevention, early detection, and treatment.
Medical education across the spectrum from primary health workers to doctors, on the latest in the field of cancer.
Development of an institute of head and neck cancer.
Other objectives:
- To develop appropriate treatment facilities for all cancer.
- To develop basic as well as field research.
- To help develop similar facilities elsewhere.
